The Department of History is one of the very first departments which was opened with the establishment of Moran Mahila Mahavidyalaya on 8th July 1992. The Department provides both Major and Non-Major Course in the Semester Level. At present the department has more than 60 (sixty) Major students in the Semester Classes. The Department has maintained an own Library consisting of important Textbooks, Reference Books, various Chronicles, Journals of National and International repute and Souvenirs of historical importance. The Department is also going to open a well-equipped Archive and a Museum very shortly. Many students after securing good results in the final examination under Dibrugarh University have been engaged in different fields.
The Department of History provides 35 seats in Major 1st Semester classes. The selection procedure is purely merit basis. Those who have secured 45% in Higher Secondary Final Examination without “History” as subject in the Secondary level can also apply. Moreover, those who have great interest in the subject are allowed to take major in History.
The Faculty Members of the department are very much conscious for the intellectual and academic development of the students. To popularise History among the students "History Study Cell" was opened in the year 2010. A well-decorated Wall Magazine named "Khoz" is the mouth-piece of the students is the first step in this regard. Moreover, a printed annual Journal named “ Borneel ” has also been published by the "History Study Cell" under the department to popularised scientific study of History among the students. The department every year organises excursions to different places of historical importance such as Deo-Pahar in Numaligarh, Tezpur, Charaideo,Majuli, Digboi, Ledo upto Steel Well Road. Beside these, the department is also going to organise Seminar, Workshop, Symposium ete. with participation of renowned scholars, intellectuals and academicians under "History Study Cell". In this context an ICSSR sponsored National Seminar on "Traditional Skill and Knowledge of Ethnic Women and Economic Development in North-East India" is going to be held on 26th and 27th October 2013 in which Research Scholars and Resource Persons from different colleges and universities of North-East India are expected to participate.
