ICSSR sponsored National Seminar on “Traditional Skill and Knowledge of Ethnic Women and Economic Development Of North East India” Organised by Department Of History, Moran Mahila Mahavidyalaya on26-27th October 2013 .
The Department of History organised an ICSSR sponsored National Seminar on “Traditional Skill and Knowledge of Ethnic Women and Economic Development of North East India” on 26th and 27th Oct 2013. The Seminar was inaugurated by Prof. Pura Tado, of Rajib Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh. The Inaugural Session was Chaired by Prof. Girin Phukan, National Fellow, New Delhi while Ms Jayashree Phukan, Principal of the College delivered the Welcome Address and explained the rational and objectives of the Seminar. Dr. Meenakshi Borkakoti, Co-ordinator of the Seminar, introduced the distinguished participants. Prof. D. Nath, of Dibrugarh University, delivered the Key-Note address. Prof. Jahnabi Gogoi Nath, in her address as Guest of Honour, thanked the organisers of the Seminar for choosing a very relevant topic for academic discourse. Prof. Girin Phukan in his address from the Chair, stressed on development and preservation of traditional knowledge of ethnic women of North East India. The Inaugural Session was followed by Business Session. Eighty Three papers were presented in five Business Sessions chaired by distinguished scholars Dr. Lovika P. Shikhu and Adangla Changkija, form Nagaland University, Prof. Pura Tado and Dr. Nabam Nakha Hina from Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh, Dr. Anup Shekhar Chakraborty from Darjeeling, North Bengal, Dr. Pahi Saikia and Dr. Bipul Bhuyan of IIT, Guwahati, Dr. Junmoni Basumatary and Layashree Muhiliary from Bodoland University, Prof B.K Baruah, Dr. Kamala Borgohain, and Dr. Dolly Phukon from Dibrugarh University. A cultural programme performed by the students of the college in the evening of the first day of the seminar which attracted the guest. The distinguished guests thanked the Department of History for successfully organising a National Level Seminar first ever in the history of the college.Glimpses of the Seminar
